Segment Checker
Pepperl+Fuchs' Segment Checker is a software tool that supports centralized and distributed fieldbus architecture concepts for PROFIBUS PA. It is the first open fieldbus design tool available to the process industry.
Segment Checker software is unique in its ability to help users check operational parameters to validate fieldbus segment architecture. It allows users to create, display, print, and archive an entire design. This powerful software also allows users to import field devices from a library, or create their own devices with the "device editor" feature.
FieldConnex Fieldbus Topology
FieldConnex® facilitates the connection of high-level bus systems to digital communication in the field. Wherever processes require high performance
and maximum transparency, digital communication enables sophisticated,
intelligent diagnostics and remote configuration. Deviations in the quality of
the data and the installation itself will be detected before these changes can have
an impact. This makes processes secure, efficient, and highly available.
FieldConnex® Segment Protectors
Segment Protectors are fieldbus couplers for connecting instruments to the fieldbus segment. They provide short-circuit protection to the trunk line. This is important where hot work performed on a field instrument would cause the entire segment to fail through unintended short circuits to the spur line.
For hazardous areas main line Segment Protectors (R2-SP-IC**) can be installed in Zone 2 / Div. 2. Some Segment Protectors are certified for Zone 1 installation. Spurs are installed with ignition protection method:
FieldConnex® FieldBarrier
The FieldBarrier (R4D0-FB-IA**) with 8, 10, or 12 outputs offers several diagnostics and protection functions. It protects fieldbus operations in multiple ways and reduces risks to a minimum.
Advanced Diagnostics
The fieldbus physical layer of PROFIBUS PA turns into a manageable asset with the Advanced Diagnostic Module (e.g. HD2-DM-A). The ADM automates commissioning and documentation, monitors the fieldbus segment online, and identifies faults in realtime.
An embedded expert system learns and interprets the electric values and behavior of each segment. Plant maintenance receives early, easy-to-understand warnings. This is supported by the simple user display:

With ADM, fieldbus is now much easier to manage. Information is available from the safety of the control room. Unnecessary trips into the field are avoided for the safety of personnel within the plant.
FieldConnex® Multi-Input Output (MIO)
The FieldConnex® Multi-Input Output (R8D0-MIO-Ex12.PA) provides connection for various discrete signals to the DCS via fieldbus and one single address. The MIO monitors the status of up to twelve NAMUR sensors or controls up to four valves—including final position feedback and automated partial stroke test. Due to its integrated breakaway and runtime monitoring for valves, an alarm signal is emitted when limit values are exceeded.
Alternatively, MIO enables overflow and idle level of containers and conduits monitored by vibration limit switches. All inputs and outputs of Multi-Input Output are intrinsically safe. The MIO serves the exact same functions as FieldConnex valve couplers and binary interfaces and as a drop-in replacement with no reconfiguration required at the PLC or DCS. New and unique is the frequency or pulse input for monitoring of rotating equipment.
FieldConnex® Accessories
Pepperl+Fuchs offers a variety of accessories such as terminators, surge protectors and enclosure leakage sensors for installation in the field as well as the control cabinet. Our accessories complement the FieldConnex® FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 or PROFIBUS PA power supply and distribution system components. Fieldbus accessories help create a reliable and well-protected fieldbus infrastructure.
TVDA for PROFIBUS DP/PA Network Design
The Pepperl+Fuchs PROFIBUS DP/PA solutions and the respective Network Design has been tested in connection with Schneider Electric’s Modicon M340 and M580 and meets the requirements to be rated as a “Tested Validated Documented Architecture” (TVDA). The architecture described in their TVDA describes how our solution and components may be integrated to fulfill an industrial application.
